Testing Silent Auctions Before Launching

This guide walks internal teams through the process of testing a Silent Auction on Trellis before making it public.

1. Create a Test Fundraiser

We recommend using a separate test fundraiser to avoid linking test data to your live event.

Tip: Label the page clearly as a test (e.g., "[TEST] Spring Gala Auction").

2. Set Auction Start and End Time

Set the start and end time in the future, to prevent the auction from closing mid-test. This ensures that test bids can be placed and later deleted before any cards are charged.

This article goes over How to Set Up Your Silent Auction

3. Create Test Silent Auction Items

For testing, we recommend setting a Starting Bid of $1 and a Minimum Bid Increment of $1 on your items.

4. Publish & Launch the Test Page

Once setup is complete, publish and launch the page.

5. Place Test Bids

  • Go to the live page and navigate to your Silent Auction and place test bids on items. Cards will not be charged until the auction closes.

Recommended: bid in $1 increments.

6. Test the Admin Experience

  • Go to Results > Auctions > Bids to view your bidding activity.

  • Visit Results > Participants to see who has viewed or interacted with the auction.

This article goes over How to Manage Auction Bids and Participants.

7. Delete Test Bids

Before the auction closes, go to Auction Bids and click Delete Bid to avoid any credit card charges.

8. Archive the Test Fundraiser

Once testing is complete delete all bids to ensure cards are not charged. We also recommend archiving the fundraiser to keep your dashboard current.
