How to Connect your Raiser’s Edge and Trellis Accounts

Follow these steps to successfully connect your RE NXT environment to Trellis.

Before Diving In:

The Raiser's Edge Integration is available for organizations on our Pro Plus plans or higher.
Our integration uses the NXT Data Integration API. In order for the integration to work, you must create an Extensibility role in RE NXT that provides access to the NXT Data Integration API. See below for more instructions on how to add the Extensibility role.
For the easiest connection experience, it is best to have a person who is an Environment Admin in RE NXT set up the connection.
If the person who sets up the integration on Trellis has their Trellis account disabled (for example, if they leave your organization), then the integration will stop working. You will need to get a new person to authorize the connection again. Your integration settings will be remembered if this happens.

How to Connect Your Raiser’s Edge Account

Log in to Trellis using an account that is an RE NXT Environment Admin, and has the Extensibility role.
From the Dashboard menu, go to Integrations > Blackbaud. If you don't see Integrations, reach out to support@trellis.org to ensure this feature is enabled for you.
Under Blackbaud Integration Settings, click on Connect.
Clicking Connect will prompt you to authorize your account through Blackbaud. Follow the steps as indicated.

How to Add an Extensibility Role in RE NXT

Our integration uses the NXT Data Integration API to sync data between Trellis and Raiser's Edge. In order for us to use this API, we need to make sure the person setting up the authorization for the integration has the Extensibility Role, which gives us permission to this API.

Here is how to set up the Extensibility Role in RE NXT.

Within RE NXT, navigate to Security to access Security Roles.
On the Security page, within the Extensibility roles section, select Create role.
Provide a Role name and Description, such as "Trellis" and "Trellis Integration"
Check "Full Access" under the NXT Data Integration API tasks.
Save the Extensibility role.
This user can now authorize the RE NXT integration on Trellis.

Troubleshooting Errors During the Connection Flow

If you encounter the error "This application has not been connected to your Blackbaud environment" while trying to connect your accounts, follow the steps below.

Open and log in to your Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge account.
Go to the Settings tab, then select Environments.
Choose the menu button (…) for the environment to which you want to add an admin, and then click Invite environment admin.
Enter the First Name, Last Name, and email address of the new admin. Click Send Invite.
The new Environment Admin will receive an email invitation that must be accepted to complete the process.
Once accepted, the new admin's name will appear when you click on the Environment Admins hyperlink under the environment.

After completing these steps in Raiser’s Edge, return to your Trellis account and retry the connection steps.

Connection Still Not Working?

If you changed your access to an Environment Admin and are still not able to connect Trellis and Raiser's Edge, please follow the steps below.

Open the Trellis page on the Blackbaud Marketplace here.
Click Get Started on the left side.
Follow the prompts to connect the two platforms.

This connection is vital to kickstart the integration process, enabling your organization to save time and effortlessly access your donor data.
