How Payments Are Processed for Silent Auctions (Auction Autopay)
Trellis automatically charges winning bidders when your auction closes, so your team doesn't have to collect payments manually.
All bidders are required to save a credit card to their account before placing a bid. When your auction ends, Trellis immediately charges each winning bidder's card for their items based on the closing date and time set in your auction settings.
What Happens When a Payment Fails
If a winning bidder's card fails to process, Trellis will:
- Automatically add the item to the bidder's cart
- Send the bidder an email and SMS notification prompting them to complete their purchase
You can preview what these notifications look like here: Preview the Silent Auction Email and SMS Notifications to Donors
To track failed payments and take follow-up action, navigate to Results > Auctions > Bids in your dashboard.
Heads Up!
Once the auction ends, it cannot be reopened and cards are charged automatically. Double-check your closing time before publishing.
Please Note: Trellis does not support disabling autopay or manual invoice-based payment collection. All auctions use automatic payment processing by default.
